Lesson 16 to 20

Leçon 16

La famille Vincent J’ai sonne.  Nous attendu quelques minutes. Maintenant un jeune garçon de seize ans ouvre la porte.  Vous avez vu son portrait à la leçon 9.  C’est Pierre Vincent.  Avec Pierre, voila une petite fille blonde.   C’est Helene Vincent ; elle a sept ans.  Puis, une dame arrive et dit, «  Bonjour, chers amis, Je suis content de votre visite ».   Cette dame est Madame Vincent, la mère de Pierre et d’Helene.  Pierre est son fils, Helene est sa fille.  Pierre est le frère d’Helene, Helene est la sœur de Pierre.  Le père des deux enfants, François Vincent, n’est pas à la maison aujourd’hui.  Il est journaliste. M Vincent a épouse une Américaine de New York, mademoiselle Margaret Bell.  Depuis dix-sept ans, elle est la femme de M Vincent et M Vincent est son mari.   Les parents de Pierre et d’Helene sont jeunes.  M Vincent  à trente-neuf ans, sa femme a trente-cinq ans.  Le père et la mère de M Vincent sont les grands-parents de Pierre et d’Helene.  M Vincent a aussi une sœur, Marie.  Elle a épouse un Argentin, Miguel Sanchez, et elle habite a Buenos Aires.  M et Mme Sanchez ont deux enfants, Anna et Roberto.

Vincent Family I  had rang. We waited a few minutes. Now a young boy of sixteen opens the door. You've seen his portrait in Lesson 9. This is Peter Vincent. With Peter, here is a little blonde girl. This is Helene Vincent, she is seven. Then a lady comes up and says, "Hello, dear friends, I am pleased with your visit." This lady is Mrs. Vincent, the mother of Peter and Helene. Peter is his son, Helene is her daughter. Peter is the brother of Helene; Helene is the sister of Peter. The father of two children, Francis  Vincent, is not at home today. He is a journalist. Mr Vincent married an American from New York, Miss Margaret Bell. For seventeen years, she is the wife of Mr Vincent and Mr Vincent is her husband. The parents of Peter and Helene are young. Mr Vincent is thirty-nine years, his wife thirty-five years. The father and mother of Mr Vincent are the grandparents of Pierre and Helene. Mr Vincent also has a sister, Mary. She has married an Argentinian,  Miguel Sanchez, and she lives in Buenos Aires. Mr. and Mrs. Sanchez have  two children, Anna and Roberto.

Leçon 17

Le salon – la salle à manger – la cuisine Nous visitons la maison des Vincent.  Au rez-de-chaussée il y a deux grandes pièces ; le salon et la salle à manger.  Voici le salon avec ses meubles ;  un divan, des fauteuils, des chaises, un piano.  Prés du piano, M Vincent a mis un poste de radio, un poste de télévision et un phono avec des disques.  Nous entrons ensuite dans la salle à mangé.  Cette grande pièce a deux larges fenêtres.  La petite Hélène met le couvert.  Elle prend, dans le buffet, des couteaux, des cuillères, des fourchettes.  Sur la table il ya a une nappe blanche, des assiettes et des verrés.  Vous n’avez pas visite ma cuisine ? dit Mme Vincent.  C’est une belle cuisine blanche.  Voici la cuisinière électrique, le réfrigérateur, et les casseroles contre le mur.  Au-dessus de l’évier le robinet brille comme de l’argent.

The Drawing Room, Dining Room and Kitchen We visit the home of the Vincents. On the ground floor there are two large rooms, living room and dining room. Here is the living room with the furnitures; a sofa, armchairs, chairs, a piano. Near the piano, Mr Vincent has put a radio, a television and a phonograph with records. We then enter the dining room. This large room has two large windows. Helen is laying the table. She takes out  knives, spoons, forks from the side board. On the table there is a white tablecloth, plates and glasses. You haven’t visited my kitchen? Says Madame Vincent. It is a beautiful white kitchen. Here is the electric stove, refrigerator, pots and pans against the wall.  Above the sink the tap shines like silver.

Leçon 18

Les chambres, la salle de bains Pour aller au premier étage, nous prenons l’escalier, car la maison n’a pas d’ascenseur (m). Combien de chambres(f) (ou de chambre a couche) avez-vous, Madame ? Deux au premier (ou : au premier étage). Deux au second. Voici ma chambre, dit la petite Hélène.  Voici la chambre de mes parents.  Pierre couche au second. Mme Vincent ajoute : « Au second, nous avons aussi une chambre d’amis.  L’année dernière nos  amis Legrand sont arrives de Paris.  Ils ont passé deux mois à la maison. La petite Helene parle encore !  Dans chaque chambre il y a un grand lit, une armoire et une table de nuit.  Et puis nous avons le chauffage central.  Et puis voici la salle de bains avec la baignoire, le lavabo. Helene, tu es trop bavarde ! dit Mme Vincent. Nous sommes redescendus dans le salon.  Ou est Mme Vincent ?  Est-elle sortie ?  Elle est allée dans la salle a manger, et elle revient avec une bouteille et des verres.  C’est du vin de France.  Ce vin est excellent.  Nous remercions Mme Vincent et nous disons au revoir à nos amis.

The rooms, bathroom To go to the first floor, we take the stairs, because the house has no lift. How many rooms (or bed rooms) do you have, madam? Two on the first (or: on the first floor).  Two on second. Here's my room, 'said the little Helen. Here's my parents' bedroom. Pierre sleeps on the second floor. Madam Vincent adds: "On the second, we also have a guest room. Last year our friends Legrand arrived from Paris. They spent two months at  our home. The little  Helene speak again!  In each room there is a double bed, a wardrobe and a bedside table. And then we have the central heating. And here is the bathroom with bathtub, the washbasin. Helene, you are too talkative! Says Madame Vincent. We come down again into the living room.  Where is Madame Vincent? Has she gone out? She went into the dining room, and returns with a bottle and glasses. This is a wine from France. This wine is excellent. We thank Madame Vincent and we say goodbye to our friends.

Leçon 19

(Les repas) Chaque matin, à huit heures, Mme Vincent sert le petit déjeuner à son mari et a ses enfants.  Elle boit du thé.  M Vincent et les enfants boivent du cafe au lait.  Et tous mangent du  pain avec du beurre ou de la marmelade, des œufs et du jambon. Ce matin, 2 juillet, les Vincent ont pris leur petit déjeuner dans la salle à manger, puis M Vincent est sorti à  8 h 30 et il n’est pas rentré a midi.  Sa femme et ses enfants ont déjeune ensemble.  Ils ont mange de la viande et des légumes.  Au dessert Mme Vincent a servi des fruits et des gâteaux.  Tous les trois ont bu de la bière.  Les Vincent ne boivent pas de vin, sauf aux jours de fête.   Puis Pierre et sa mère ont pris du café avec sucre. Il est maintenant sept heures du soir.  Mme Vincent a mis le couvert et elle prépare le diner. A huit heures, M Vincent n’est pas la.  Les enfants ont faim.  Mme Vincent sert le potage, puis un poisson.  Elle regarde l’horloge, « Votre père est en retard, Pourquoi ?

(The Meals) Every morning at eight o'clock, Mrs. Vincent serves breakfast to her husband and her children. She drinks tea. M Vincent and the children drink coffee with milk.  And thy all eat  bread with butter or jam, eggs and ham. This morning, July 2, the Vincents took their breakfast in the dining room, then M Vincent went out at 8.30 and he has not returned at noon. His wife and children have lunch together. They eat meat and vegetables. For dessert Mrs. Vincent served fruits and cakes. All three drank beer. The Vincents do not drink wine, except on festivals.  Then Peter and his mother took coffee with sugar. It is now seven o'clock in the evening. Mrs. Vincent has set the table and she prepares dinner. At eight o'clock, Mr. Vincent is not there. The children are hungry. Ms. Vincent serves soup and fish. She looks at the clock, "Your father is late, why?

Leçon 20

(Une Grande nouvelle) On sonne.  C’est papa !  dit Hélène, et vite-elle ouvre la porte. Ecoutez, mes enfants, j’apporte une grande nouvelle.  Nous partirons dans un mois pour la France.  Je serai correspondant de mon journal à Paris. Les enfants sont contents !  Voyagerons-nous en avion ou en bateau ?  demande Pierre.  Visiterons-nous la tour Eiffel et Notre-Dame ? Et lit petit chat, dit Hélène, partira-t-il aussi ? Mme Vincent regarde son mari.  François, vous avez faim, n’est-ce pas ?  A table mes enfants !  Nous parlerons de ce grand voyage pendant le diner. A table, M Vincent dit a sa femme, « J’ai visite beaucoup de grandes villes.  J’ai été correspondant du Courrier de Montréal au Caire, à Lyon, a Londres.  Je suis content de passer quelques années en France.  Vous visiterez avec moi ce beau pays.  C’es la vieille patrie de beaucoup de Canadiens ».

(A Great new) The doorbell rings. It's Dad! Helen said, and she quickly opens the door. Listen, my children, I bring great news. We leave in a month for France. I will be correspondent of  my newspaper  in Paris. The children are happy!  Will we travel by plane or boat?  Asks Peter.  Will we visit the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame? What about the little kitten , Helen says, Will it go there too? Mrs. Vincent looks at her husband. Francis, you're hungry,  are you not?  At the  dining table my children!  We'll talk about this great trip during the dinner. At the dining table, M Vincent tells his wife, "I have visited many cities. I was correspondent of “Courier Montreal” at Cairo, Lyon, London. I'm happy to spend a few years in France. You can visit this beautiful country with me. This is the homeland of many Canadians. "
