Leçon 26
La famille Vincent débarque au Havre Voici un grand port avec des bateaux ; c’est Le Havre.  Le paquebot France s’est arrêté devant le quai et les passagers débarquent. Voici maintenant un train.  Il va transporter à Paris les voyageurs d’Angleterre et d’Amérique.  C’est n’est pas un omnibus, c’est un express : il s’arrêtera seulement à Rouen.  Les moteurs tournent déjà.  Ce train a six wagons de voyageurs, un wagon-restaurant et un fourgon pour les bagages. Sur la troisième image vous voyez quatre voyageurs.  Ils viennent de passer a la douane et vont monter dans un wagon de seconde classe.  Reconnaissez-vous la famille Vincent ?  Voyez-vous les cheveux noirs de Pierre et les cheveux blonds d’Helene ?  M Vincent et son fils portent des valises. Helene tient une poupée dans ses bras.  Ou sont les malles de la famille ?  Elles sont déjà dans le fourgon.	The Vincent family disembarks at Le Havre Here is a great harbour with boats, It is Le Havre. The ship “France” stopped in front of the dock (Warf) and passengers disembark. Here is now a train. It will transport travellers to Paris from England and America. This is not an ordinary train, it is an express: it only stops at Rouen. The engines are already running. This train has six carriages, a dining car and a van for luggage. In the third picture you see four travellers. They just moved on to the customs and will get into second-class carriage. Do you recognize the Vincent family? Do you see the black hair of Peter and blonde hair of Helene? Mr Vincent and his son carry bags. Helene holds a doll in her arms.  Where are the trunks of the family? They are already in the luggage wagon.

Leçon 27
Dans le Train Le chef de gare a donne le signal du départ.  Le mécanicien met la locomotive en marche.  Les wagons commencement a roulé sur les rails.  Le train sort de la gare, passe sur des ponts (m), sous des tunnels (m) devant des signaux rouges et verts. La deuxième image montre la famille Vincent dans son compartiment.  M Vincent s’est assis sur la banquette de droite.  Il fume sa pipe.  Mme Vincent s’est assise sur la banquette de gauche, en face de son mari.  Elle lit des journaux.   La petite Helene,  près de sa mère, joue avec sa poupée.  Et Pierre ?  Où est-il ?  Il est debout dans le couloir. Voici le contrôleur : « Vos billets s’il vous plait ! ….  Merci, Monsieur »  et il quitte le compartiment.	In the Train The station master gave the signal for departure. The engine driver starts the engine. The wagons start to roll on the rails. The train leaves the station passes over bridges, through tunnels to the red and green signals. The second image shows the Vincent family in their compartment. M Vincent is sitting on the bench on the right. He smokes his pipe. Mrs. Vincent is sitting on the bench on the left, in front of her husband. She reads newspapers. The little Helene, near his mother, is playing with her doll. And Peter? Where is he? He is standing in the hallway. Here is the Ticket Inspector: "Your tickets please! .... Thank you, "and he leaves the compartment.

Leçon 28
L’arrive à Paris (gare Saint Lazare) A 20 heures (huit heures du soir) l’express Le Havre-Paris entre en gare, sur la voie 23.  Il n’a pas de retard.  Les parents et les amis des voyageurs ont pris des tickets (m), de quai.  Ils attendent et font déjà des signes amicaux. Le train s’arrête.  M Vincent crie : «  Porteur ! » Un porteur vient prendre les valises. Mais, là-bas … voila M Legrand ! M Vincent a reconnu sa figure ronde, ses lunettes, ses cheveux gris et sa moustache.   M Legrand serre la main à M et à Mme Vincent et à  Pierre.  Il embrasse Helene sur les deux joues : « Bonjour, chers amis, avez-vous fait un bon voyage ? Oui, merci, répond M Vincent.  Comment vont Mme Legrand et vos enfants ? Ils vont bien.  Ils vous attendront demain à la maison pour le thé et vous dinerez avec nous. Avec plaisir. Où avez-vous retenu nos chambres ? A l’hôtel du Palais-Royal, près du Louvre.  Je vais vous conduire.  Et M Legrand sort de la gare avec ses amis canadien.	The arrival in Paris (Station of St. Lazare) At 20 hours (eight o'clock in the evening) the express train enters into the station at Le Havre in Paris on platform No 23.  It is not late.  The Parents and friends of the travellers took the tickets of quay (platform tickets). They are waiting and giving friendly gestures. The train stops. M Vincent shouts "Porter!” A porter came to take the suitcases. But there ... Mr Legrand !  Mr Vincent recognises his round face, his glasses, his gray hair and his moustache.  Mr Legrand shakes hands with Mr & Mrs Vincent and Peter. He kisses on both the cheeks of Helene:  "Hello, dear friends, have you had a good trip? Yes, thank you, replies Mr Vincent. How is Mrs Legrand and your children? They're fine. Tomorrow they will be waiting at home for tea and you will dine with us. With pleasure. Where did you book our rooms?    At the Hotel Palais-Royal, near the Louvre. I will take you there.   Mr Legrand comes  out of the station with his Canadian friends.

Leçon 29
(Vers l’hôtel) La rue d’Amsterdam est étroite et pleine de voitures.  Mais les autos ne font as beaucoup de bruit, elles ne klaxonnent pas.  « Prenons un taxi » dit M Legrand. « He ! chauffeur ! Conduisez-nous à l’hôtel du Palais-Royal, près du Louvre.  Passes par la place de la Concorde, s’il vous plait. » Le taxi passe devant l’église de la Madeleine et arrive à la place de la Concorde.   « Regarde, Helene, la tour Eiffel », dit M Legrand, Helene et Pierre ouvrent de grands yeux : la bas, ils voient la tour Eiffel, haute et noire.  Le taxi, passe sur les quais de la Seine, il traverse le Louvre et s’arrête devant l’hôtel du Palais-Royal.  Le portier salue les voyageurs.  Puis il emporte les valises dans le hall de l’hôtel. M Legrand demande au chauffeur, « Combien ? Le chauffeur regarde le compteur : 12 francs » M Legrand paie et il donne 3 francs de pourboire (m).  Le chauffeur relève le drapeau du compteur.  Le taxi repart.	Lesson 29 The Amsterdam street is narrow and full of cars. But the cars don’t have much noise, They do not honk. "We’ll take a taxi," said M Legrand."  Hey! Driver! Take us to the Hotel du Palais-Royal, near the Louvre. Pass through the Place de la Concorde, please. The taxi passes in front of the church of Marie and arrives at the Place de la Concorde. "Look, Helene, the Eiffel Tower," said Mr Legrand, Pierre and Helene open their eyes: there, they see the Eiffel Tower, tall and black. The taxi passing near the banks of the Seine, passing through the Louvre, stops at the Hotel du Palais-Royal. The doorman greets the travellers. Then he carries the luggage in the hotel lobby.  Mr Legrand asks the driver, "How much? The driver looks at the counter: 12 francs "Mr Legrand pays and gives a tip of 3 francs. The driver raises the meter. The taxi leaves.

Leçon 30
A L’hôtel M Legrand conduit ses amis au bureau de l’hôtel.  « J’ai téléphone la semaine dernière, dit-il au directeur ; j’ai retenu deux chambres au nom de Vincent.  Le directeur ouvre un gros cahier ; « Au premier étage, nous avons une chambre à deux lits avec salle de bains.  La deuxième chambre est au sixième ; elle est moins grande que la chambre du premier, mais elle est plus claire et aussi confortable.  Excusez-nus ; tout est occupé ; en été, il y a beaucoup d’étrangères a Paris.  Voulez-vous prendre ces chambres ? Oui, je veux bien. Alors, voici vos clés ; vous avez les numéros 9 et 127.  L’ascenseur est la, à gauche.  Mais d’abord, veuille remplir ces fiches. Chers amis, dit M Legrand, je vais vous quitter.  Dormez bien.  A demain après-midi, n’est ce pas ?	At the Hotel Mr Legrand led his friends to the hotel desk.
